Somewhat overshadowed by the more direct WCML route from Lancaster to Carlisle the scenic coastal line via Barrow and Whitehaven is a real treat.
After crossing the head of Morecambe bay on Arnside viaduct the line clings mostly to the Cumbrian coast through many areas of outstanding natural beauty.
Leaving Barrow trains continue north along the stunning coastline of Cumbria, winding our way north before eventually passing through Whitehaven and Workington

before turning inland to Carlisle.
