START UP: On the real units all four of the engines when cold are started manually from the track, this is done by
the driver walking around the train, thus the start up of the engines is staggered. So we have two options:-
Staggered Engines Start Up is available with: CV161=1 Normal Engine Start Up is pre-Set on CV161=0
You should program BOTH DMBS & DMA together with CV161=1 (The decoders are Pre-Set at CV161=0 'Normal Start')
On staggered start, when Engine 1 starts, throttle up the, for 3 seconds and back down to 0 down acceleration, then Engine3 will start,
REPEAT this on the Rear car when Engine 2 starts, this will fire up Engine 4,

PLEASE NOTE: The Heljan Model has Speakers fitted, but they are not the best, the twin Bass or Single Bass can be fitted under the model.
The
design of the Dapol model re sound fitting is very poor, there is a
massive area in the brake van + a socket BUT unless you open the windows
on the guards doors the sound cannot get out, this makes the sound
waves enter the passenger area and the model rattles with very odd noises.
If you remove the seats, under the circuit board there are 2 X 26mm Speaker 'holes' in the floor, I wired these back to the Brake Van plug. Then covered over them with a lid made from a square of plasticard, with some 3 to 4 mm strips making the sides, all holes (Wires) should be sealed with white PVA of Glue & Glaze, as if this bow is airtight from Inside the model and frog the underneath where the holes are, it will be far louder.
Some of the underside of the seating has to be removed to accommodate this sound chamber. 'BUMP' inside the Dapol model.
On
a second one I put 2 X Small Black Speakers on the underside of the
unit and lost them within the equipment there, the wires are fed through
the speaker holes in the floor and running them back to the plug again.
