Diesel Hydraulics a colour retrospective

Is the first in a new series from Wild Swan of all colour landscape hardback books intended to celebrate reflect and record different aspects of the British railway scene.

The author is Andrew Vines, a photographer and enthusiast for all things hydraulic who authored Diesels in the Highlands for Ian Allan in 2006. In this book Andrew draws upon various research sources and authorities on the subject to give the reader a comprehensive and well informed account of this all too brief era of Western Region traction. Few of the photographs will have been seen in print before including those from the author, his father and those of other established cameramen of the day.

There are some unusual views and locations included together with scenes more familiar of the time as all the different classes are covered.

The captions have been extensively researched and thoughtfully written providing a wealth of information on the locomotives, the trains being worked along with the traffic being carried and the locations served.

Also included are interesting observations on various aspects of the subject, together with thoughtful reflections upon some of the issues faced by the railways some fifty or so years ago.

Produced in a larger landscape format to make the most of these priceless colour photographs from an almost lost era.

These photographs have with the odd exception not been seen in print before. They feature the work of some of the best railways photographers
